Welcome to EarlK Design!

The EarlK Design blog consists mainly of entries that show how to do things using Adobe Photoshop that I hope you will find helpful and give your creative mind more tools to work with.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS6, and sometimes Adobe Illustrator CS5, Lightroom 5, and Corel Painter X. However, I believe that much of what I show can be done using Photoshop Elements.

Template Freebie from EarlK Design

Here is another freebie Template for you! This one is based on a 4 x 4 grid of squares giving you 16 individual clipping mats. You can clip photos into them or papers or whatever. This is a fully layered PSD file. I have all items on their own layers, so there are a lot of layers. I did not groups similar layers, so those of you who do not have Groups can use this template. For those of you who do have Groups, after you download the file you can group the similar layers to make your Layers Panel not so cluttered, if you wish. The file is a 12 x 12 inch, 300 ppi, RGB, white Background document. You can turn layer visibility off and on to create a variety of layouts from this one template. In addition to the 16 squares, I have provided other layers that will give you a 2 x 2 grid giving you 4 individual mats. There are others mats as well, even just one large mat.

Here are some examples of what you can do with this template. This is the basic 4 x 4 grid of mats to which you can clip your photos.

This is where you have turned off the visibility of the 4 lower right squares and turned on the visibility of the text layer.

In this example, you have turned off the visibility of all 16 small squares and turned on the visibility of 3 of the 4 medium sized squares and moved the location of the Subtitle.

In the following, you have turned off one of the medium squares, turned off the text area, and turned on of of the larger rectangular areas. Remember, you can move the text area to wherever you want it to be.

And, here you can attach one large photo that deserves to be by itself.

And, if you have a few photos that you want to scatter around, you can do something like this.

All you need is this fully layered PSD  template to create a variety of different layouts, all based on a square. The layers are labeled so you can easily figure out what is on each layer. I have included some Hue/Saturation Adjustment layers so you can easily adjust the color of some of the items. There is even a Pattern Fill layer so you can add in a pattern if you wish.  If you don't want a pattern, just turn off the visibility of those layers. And, all the type layers have a Color Fill layer with them so you can easily change the color of the text by double clicking on the layer color thumbnail to open up the color picker and selecting the color you want. You can add into the layout any elements that you would like to have in it. It really is very versatile.

If you would like to download this file, Click here. This will take you to 4shared.com. You can download the file from there. This file is in a ZIP file and you will need to unzip the file to get to the PSD template file. If you haven't used 4shared.com before, when their page opens, on the left-hand side of the page there will be a blue rectangle with a white arrow pointing downward with white text saying "Download Now." Click on that blue box. This will take you to a new window that will have a box that says "Your download link will appear after wait." There will be a circle with the wait period counting down. After the wait, where the words "Your download link will appear after wait" were, you will see the words "Download file now." Click on those words and your download will begin. At least this is how it works on my iMac using the Firefox browser. Also, 4shared.com only allows one person to be downloading the file at a time. So, if you have trouble getting the file to download, you may want to try at a later time as someone may already be downloading it when you tried to do so.

I hope you find this template useful and enjoy using it.

Enjoy your scrapbooking and enjoy life!
