By the magic of the computer, it is possible to simulate the creation of marbled paper. These papers are similar to watercolor marbling. In actual watercolor marbling, watercolors are floated on a liquid, called size. Then the colors can be combed by dragging a special rake or comb through the colors. Finely detailed patterns can be made. In doing real watercolor marbling, you may use a colored paper to give you a background color. Then you add blobs of different watercolors onto the surface of the liquid. Then you move your rakes and combs through the colors in various ways to create the patterns.
On the computer, I use a background color and then add blobs of other colors. This is an example of what the background color and blobs look like. These blobs pages can be used for your layouts, too. A pattern like this, instead of being called blobs, is called "Stone."
After the blobs are created, then you apply rakes and combs by dragging them through the colors floating on the surface of the liquid. On the computer, you don't actually do that. Somewhere some brilliant person created a program that simulates this dragging the rakes and combs through the colors. And, you can make various marbled patterns. The application that I use to create these marbled papers is Corel Painter X.
This pattern is called "Bouquet." It is created from the Stone, or Blob. For all the designs, you start with the blobs.
Another pattern is "Get-gel," and done with a wide-tooth rake.
This pattern is a Get-gel done with a smaller-toothed comb.
And, this is a "Nonpareil."
And, there are many, many variations of these patterns. However, in this EarlK Design Set 2 Marbled Papers, there are each of these five patterns in four different colors. The colors are the four colors of these examples. All the papers are 12 x 12 inches at 300 ppi and jpg format. And, here is an image of all 20 papers. In each of these patterns I used a medium color for the background color and then added a lighter and darker shade of the same color. So, there are three colors on each page.
CLICK HERE to download the set of papers. They are a freebie for you. It is a large download. It is a zip file of about 130MB size. You will have to unzip the file to get to the papers.
This will take you to 4shared.com. From there you will be able to download the file. If you haven't used 4shared.com before, when their page opens, on the left-hand side of the page there will be a blue rectangle with a white arrow pointing downward with white text saying "Download Now." Click on that blue box. This will take you to a new window that will have a box that says "Your download link will appear after wait." There will be a circle with the wait period counting down. After the wait, where the words "Your download link will appear after wait" were, you will see the words "Download file now." Click on those words and your download will begin. At least this is how it works on my iMac using the Firefox browser. Also, 4shared.com only allows one person to be downloading the file at a time. So, if you have trouble getting the file to download, you may want to try at a later time as someone may already be downloading it when you tried to do so.
Although I have given you only four colors, the following video shows you how quickly and easily you can change the colors to whatever you want. That way you can match the colors in any image that you are placing on a page, if that is what you want to do. This video is a brief introduction into how to change the colors using the Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer or the Paint Bucket Tool. If you want more detailed information on using the Paint Bucket Tool, you can go to the portion of this blog that has a more detailed description by either scrolling down the blog or by clicking here.
Here is the video showing you how to recolor a paper.
I hope that you enjoy using these papers. I have fun creating the marbled papers. Making them on the computer is a lot easier and a lot less messy than doing it by hand. However, it is still a lot of fun doing it by hand. And, remember, it is very easy to change the colors to whatever you want or have in mind. They are here for you to use, enjoy and have fun with them.
That's all for now.
