Welcome to EarlK Design!

The EarlK Design blog consists mainly of entries that show how to do things using Adobe Photoshop that I hope you will find helpful and give your creative mind more tools to work with.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS6, and sometimes Adobe Illustrator CS5, Lightroom 5, and Corel Painter X. However, I believe that much of what I show can be done using Photoshop Elements.

Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen . . . 19 February 2013

Another day for another Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen. These are fun days!

This is what Kim gave us for the challenge.

Welcome to TT.... the Downton eDition
This week's TT challenge details are...
Your image must contain at least one layer of any of the Downton I Collection Textures.

I started with the idea of using only one texture from the Downton I Collection, but I actually ended up with one from Downton I and one from Downton II. I used my Ephraim Faience Pottery Dandelion vase photo as my starting image. Here is what the original photo looks like.

I photographed the vase on a piece of Batik fabric. The vase is about 7-inches tall and 3-1/2-inches in diameter. Most people think of dandelions as weeds. But, to me, a weed is an unwanted plant, and I definitely want dandelions, so it is not a weed to me.

Step 1.  I opened the photo in Photoshop CS6.

Step 2.  Next I added a Gradient Fill layer and used a light blue to transparent linear gradient. I left the layer at Normal Mode, but reduced the Opacity to 50%.

Step 3.  I added in the Downton I Collection kk_sybil texture. I changed the layer Blend Mode to Divide and left Opacity = 100%.

Step 4.  Then I added in the Downton Collection II kk_anna texture. I changed the layer Blend Mode to Divide and changed the Opacity = 70%.

This gives me a nice soft look for my image. I was happy with the previous image with only the kk_sybil texture, but I like this with the two textures even more.

So, this is what I have ended up with.

That is all for this Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen.
