Welcome to EarlK Design!

The EarlK Design blog consists mainly of entries that show how to do things using Adobe Photoshop that I hope you will find helpful and give your creative mind more tools to work with.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS6, and sometimes Adobe Illustrator CS5, Lightroom 5, and Corel Painter X. However, I believe that much of what I show can be done using Photoshop Elements.

Texture Tuesday . . . 27 May 2014 . . . Free & Easy

Another Tuesday and time for Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen. For this Texture Tuesday, Kim gave us:

Next weeks theme ....Tuesday, May 27th
free & easy....

For this eDition of Texture Tuesday, I was roaming the Internet looking for something interesting to do and show you. I found this technique for making painterly renditions of your image.

I started with this image of chrysanthemums that I took at the Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha, Nebraska, at the Fall Chrysanthemum Show, November 2010.

and after my edits, I had this:

If you would like to know more about this technique, click on the READ MORE > > >

This technique requires the use of the Art History Brush Tool. I am not sure this tool is in PS Elements. I used Photoshop CS6 on a Mac. I used Kim's texture kk_simplethings in my editing.

There are so many ways of using this brush that instead of my showing you, I refer you to Julieanne Kost at Adobe Secrets of the Art History Brush. I hope that you go visit Julieanne and see her great video on using this tool. I think you will have a lot of fun making painterly renditions of your photos. Julieanne also has many tutorials for Photoshop and Lightroom.

That's all for now.

Live life fully and enjoy.

Earl

Chrysanthemums don't get nearly enough credit in the world of flowers! Such beautiful vibrant colors and layers of texture, too, in these flowers. Love what you've done with this image. I've watched several videos by Julieanne Kost but haven't seen the one you referenced. I'll check it out, too!

Sigh... it not only looks painterly but also looks like you've used a-multiple-exposure-effect, so gorgeous!
I can't find the Art History Brush Tool in PSE :(

The original photo is already beautiful, but I love the processing you did. A beautiful, swirly effect.

I absolutely love your edits! The flowers look stunning in the second photo - and I thought that wasn't possible since they already look so beautiful in the first one. Thank you for sharing, Earl!

Lovely painterly edit.

Beautiful texturing with all those colors! I enjoy the adobe videos and learned lightroom that way. And yes, it would be sweet to have the art history brush, but I am sure with some looking, there may be an alternative out there!
