Welcome to EarlK Design!

The EarlK Design blog consists mainly of entries that show how to do things using Adobe Photoshop that I hope you will find helpful and give your creative mind more tools to work with.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS6, and sometimes Adobe Illustrator CS5, Lightroom 5, and Corel Painter X. However, I believe that much of what I show can be done using Photoshop Elements.

Collage Obsession Happiness is ...

For this week in Collage Obsession, Tiffany gave us this:

Happiness is…

THE CHALLENGE

This week, please create something based on filling in the blank below:

Happiness is ____________________________________________ .

Your answer can be as light-hearted or serious as you wish.

A little while ago, I discovered a practice that was going on at my local Starbucks. It's call "Pay Back." When you are in the Drive-thru, and there is a car behind you, you can ask the barista how much the bill is for the car behind you. If you are feeling generous, you can pay their bill. When they get to the window, they find out that their order is free. What a nice discovery for them. When mine has been Pay Backed, it really makes my day. I don't know if this is done at other Starbucks or not, but I like to think that the people of Bellevue, Nebraska, at least have a little joy added to their life every now and then.

Here is my entry for this week's Collage Obsession Challenge.

Live life fully.

Collage Obsession . . . Handwriting

For the past week, Sherry gave us:

Handwriting

We see fewer and fewer handwritten letters and documents these days.  Many of us don't even use our own handwriting much anymore, relying on all of our gadgets instead.  I don't think many schoolchildren in the U.S. even learn cursive writing nowadays!  But handwriting can be a beautiful form of art.  So this week, for old times' sake, please incorporate "handwriting"  into your collage somehow.

For this challenge, I used some examples of handwritten calligraphy that was done during a workshop at Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, New Mexico, during the summer of 1982. Some of the work was done by me and some done by others attending the workshop.

Here is my collage.

That's it for now.

Live Life fully.

Collage Obsession . . . 9 February 2014

For this week's Collage Obsession. Linda gave us:

Collage obsession --Steampunk

Saturday, February 8th, is the birthday of Jules Verne. Verne was a French author who pioneered the genre of science-fiction. He is best known for his novels "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (1864), "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" (1870), and "Around the World in Eighty Days" (1873).

Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before navigable aircraft and practical submarines were invented, and before any means of space travel had been devised. He paired these futuristic inventions with a droll Victorian sensibility, and may be considered on of the fathers of 'Steampunk' as well as of science fiction.

He is the third most translated author of all time, behind Disney Productions and Agatha Christie.

So, off we go into the Victorian world of future past.

Collage Obsession . . . 8 February 2014

For this week's Collage Obsession, Kaylene gave us:

Nature's Home
This weeks word and image  is " Nature's Home", and in our imagination there are so many different types of homes, I have chosen a shell that may become a "home" to a crab or whatever takes your fancy. You can express the word literally or metaphorically.
Use or express the word "Nature's Home" some how in your collage, or use both, a photo and a word, the word does not have to show up in your collage.
